The process of making ata bags is begun by selecting the intact and good quality ata. Selected atas is then divided into two, namely external cutis and flesh (inside). Its flesh is used for the structure of the handicraft that will be made. The flexible and cutis part is used for diverse ornaments.
Tools used to separate these two parts of ata are knives and perforated in accordance with its size. Afterwards, the following step is shaping the model and making its ornament. This process is known as ngulat or plaiting.
The ornament setting consists of string, side part, ornament fastening and so forth. Having completed the ornament setting, the finished bag is then dried under bright sun light for a week. Final process is performing fumigation lasting for some 24 hours. It aims at bringing out its natural color.
